Since 2017, Charleston County, SC, has been using enCodePlus to make their Zoning and Land Development Regulations (ZLDR) more accessible to their citizens. When County staff undertook a major update and reorganization of their ZLDR in 2020, enCodePlus helped with the process by creating a project site in which staff could draft text edits and receive public feedback while maintaining a clean version of the existing regulations.
The ZLDR update was completed in 2022. Then, to make the regulations even easier for the public to access and understand, enCodePlus created a number of additional features. These included development calculators for buffers, parking, and signage requirements; an eReader that presents the regulations in a book-like format; links to various related plans and information on the County website; and a compiled page of Quick Tables to showcase important tables from the ZLDR.
Also in 2022, the County added an additional site for their Comprehensive Plan, utilizing enCodePlus’ flexible design capabilities to create a uniquely formatted document that is available to read in either a traditional online format or as an eReader.
Charleston County staff continues to update their Zoning and Land Development Regulations and Comprehensive Plan in their enCodePlus portal, ensuring ongoing access for staff and citizens alike.
