In early 2023, enCodePlus began work on the Unified Development Code (UDC) for the city of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The city was in the process of updating the UDC and wanted a way to display the code online for better access by users. The portal was initially set up using the 2021 version of their UDC to establish all of its design elements and to provide the public with continued access to the regulations while the new ones were drafted. When the new UDC was adopted, the previous regulations were replaced with the updated text and codified into place.
The UDC utilizes hyperlinked cross-references and pop-up definitions to enhance the user experience. Additional features of the portal include: Quick Links to additional planning documents on the city’s website, interactive GIS mapping features, and Quick Tables. The Quick Tables are especially helpful for users as they provide easy, direct reference to information such as Lot and Building Standards for specific districts, Permitted Uses, required Parking Spaces, a summary of Review Procedures, and more. Together, Colorado Springs city staff and enCodePlus created an attractive, easy-to-use update to their previous zoning regulations.
